On Saturday in the Ropažs region, during the dark hours, a car fatally hit a woman who was crossing the roadway, reported the State Police.
The traffic accident occurred around 17:40 on Granīta Street in the Stopiņi municipality. The driver of a "Citroen Berlingo" hit a woman who was crossing the road in the dark without reflective elements. The police have initiated a criminal process regarding the incident and are investigating the circumstances of the accident.
Meanwhile, at 17:12, rescuers received a call about another accident in the Ropažs region - three passenger cars collided in the Garkalne municipality. One person was freed from a vehicle by rescuers, while the others managed to get out of their cars on their own.
In the past 24 hours, 124 traffic accidents have been registered in Latvia, with 13 people injured in 10 accidents.
A total of 479 reports were filed for various traffic violations, including 215 for speeding and two for aggressive driving.
Ten drivers were detained for driving under the influence of alcohol. In three cases, the drivers were held administratively responsible, while in seven cases, they faced criminal charges.
