The State Police (GP) will conduct an internal investigation regarding the fine imposed on the author of the satirical video, the police informed the LETA agency.
The author of the video on social media stated that a year ago he published a clip in which he sarcastically described the GULAG camps, reacting in this way to comments from supporters of the policies pursued by Russia. This year, he learned that he had been fined for glorifying the USSR, and 350 euros were deducted from his bank account.
In response to the information circulated on social media about the imposed fine for the satirical video, after assessing the available information and circumstances, the State Police (GP) acknowledged that the specific decision was made hastily. The police indicated that the case was processed correctly, but without a comprehensive analysis of the circumstances.
The GP admits that the fine was imposed unjustifiably, this decision will be revoked, and the incurred expenses will be reimbursed. Additionally, the Chief of Police, Armand Ruks, ordered an internal investigation, and the inquiry into the circumstances is ongoing.
At the same time, the police urge residents to ensure that their contact information is current and accessible so that institutions can reach out and clarify any arising questions, as happened in this case when the individual was informed, but the notifications sent to the declared residential address did not reach him.
The GP also apologizes for the inconvenience caused.
