At the Lode railway station, two 16-year-old teenagers climbed onto the roof of the train while the Valmiera–Riga train was in motion.
The train driver noticed what was happening, stopped the train, and the teenagers were handed over to the police. An administrative case has been initiated regarding the incident, the police reported to bb.lv.
Details are as follows: On October 20 at around 9:38 AM at the Lode station in the Cesis region, two underage boys climbed onto the roof of the train while it was stationary. Shortly thereafter, the train started moving, and the teenagers remained on the roof as the train was already heading towards Riga.
The driver, noticing this, immediately stopped the train and reported the incident to the State Police. Both teenagers were detained and handed over to the police officers.
They are 16 years old — born in 2009 — and according to them, they initially intended to travel to Riga by train from Valmiera. They admitted that they decided to "ride on the roof out of curiosity."
An administrative case has been initiated against the minors in accordance with part one of Article 11 of the Administrative Responsibility Law — for violating public order by disregarding generally accepted norms of behavior and creating a threat to safety.
The State Police reminds that such behavior is extremely dangerous: being on the roof of a train can lead to serious injuries or even death, as there is a risk of falling, electrocution, or other dangerous consequences while in motion.
Now, when schoolchildren have autumn break and more free time, the police urge young people to choose safe and useful ways to spend their leisure time. Parents and educators are recommended to talk to children and teenagers about the risks of such behavior, reminding them that safety rules and norms of behavior must be observed in public transport.
