In Riga, a 13-year-old boy fled from the police at a speed of 235 km/h. Caught only in Saulkrasti

On the night from Monday to Tuesday, around 01:50, police officers were conducting a check for drivers under the influence of alcohol on Brivibas Street in Riga. At that moment, the driver of a Škoda car did not comply with the police's demands to stop and fled, reported bb.lv from the Latvian State Police.

Police repeatedly demanded that the vehicle stop, but the driver continued to evade — first on the A2 highway, then turned onto the A1 highway. During the chase, he significantly exceeded the speed limit, reaching 235 km/h.

The fugitive headed towards Saulkrasti, and a decision was made to involve additional forces from the municipal police of Saulkrasti. On Ainazu Street in Saulkrasti, law enforcement managed to stop the car.

It was only then that the police discovered that a 13-year-old teenager was behind the wheel, having taken the car from his parents. There were also two other minors in the vehicle.

The State Police initiated a criminal process under Article 259.1 of the Criminal Law — for violating traffic rules, expressed in aggressive driving after a repeated demand from a competent official to stop the vehicle. The police are currently continuing to investigate all the circumstances of the incident.

The State Police urges parents to ensure that children do not have unrestricted access to the keys of the car or other vehicles.
