On Wednesday evening, a pedestrian was fatally hit on Valmiera Highway, reported the State Police.
The traffic accident occurred around 8:00 PM at the 65th kilometer of the highway when the driver of a "Volvo" bus ran over a pedestrian crossing the road. As a result of the incident, the pedestrian died.
In the past 24 hours, five more people were injured in traffic accidents, including three pedestrians and two cyclists.
On Wednesday, the police detained four drivers who were behind the wheel while intoxicated, and one driver under the influence of narcotic substances. Criminal proceedings have been initiated in three cases, and administrative cases have been opened in two.
There were also 208 cases of exceeding the permissible speed limit recorded, and four aggressive drivers were fined.
