Drunk driver in Ulbroka tried to escape from the police but ended up in a dead end and faces three criminal charges

When drinking, the sea is knee-deep, but when it comes to taking responsibility for one's actions, there is a lack of courage. This describes the situation in Ulbroka, where a drunk driver attempted to escape from the police but, being unfamiliar with the area, turned into a dead end. The attempt to pretend to be a passenger also did not help convince the law enforcement officers, reports the Degpunktā program (TV3).

Local residents reported a gray Opel that police cameras captured passing through the courtyard of an apartment building. They noticed that a group of men in the car was drinking alcohol and suspected that the driver was about to leave.

The vehicle entered the garage area, possibly unaware that a dead end awaited it there.

"As we approached the vehicle, it was noticed that there were two people inside. One of them, who was sitting in the driver's seat, climbed into the back seat through the backrest to avoid being caught as the driver," said Sandis Gedominškis, head of the Stopiņi-Ropaži police station in the Ropaži region.

The driver's friend was not very talkative and was unwilling to cooperate. However, his identity was established, and the reasons for the escape became clear.

"It was found that the man does not have a driver's license and also refused to undergo an alcohol test. Both individuals were detained for procedural actions," Gedominškis clarified.

The driver is charged with three criminal offenses: driving under the influence, driving without a license, and refusal to take an alcohol test.
