The Head of the State Police Named One of the Main Priorities of the Structure in the Coming Years

One of the main priorities of the police in the coming years will still be strengthening human resources, said the head of the State Police, Armand Ruks, in an interview on the LTV program "Morning Panorama," according to LETA.

This autumn marked the end of Ruks' first five-year term, which has been extended for another term until 2030. According to the head of the police, the biggest challenge for him has been the reorganization of the agency's work.

In Ruks' assessment, significant effort has been invested in providing the police with human resources, which are still critically lacking, although positive trends are observed this year. The most significant shortage of staff is in the response and patrol units to ensure a more visible police presence in society. The head of the State Police noted that police presence has a significant impact, as it contributes to reducing crime rates.

Reducing violence, including against women and within families, is also an important priority for the State Police. Ruks emphasized that participation in the so-called Istanbul Convention provides a legal basis for combating violence, as well as access to various financial funds for implementing initiatives to reduce violence.

Evaluating the impact of illegal migration on the security situation, Ruks stated that "concern is certainly necessary," but overall he does not see serious problems. The police representative noted that the vast majority of those entering Latvia did so legally, and violations are most often recorded because people subsequently did not properly arrange their documents.
