Concert Canceled, What About the Money? Every Riga Music Lover Can Be Hurt

In September, a concert dedicated to the Italian artist Adriano Celentano was supposed to take place in Riga at the VEF Culture Palace. However, shortly before the scheduled event, ticket holders received a message that this concert was canceled, and the organizer was declared insolvent.

How can viewers get their money back for tickets in such cases?

Should You Contact the Seller?

One of the viewers of LTV complained that she spent over 170 euros on tickets and is now experiencing difficulties getting the amount back.

Moreover, as public information shows, not only the company Baltic Marketing and Events Corporation, which organized the mentioned concert, has been declared insolvent, but also its owner — the registered in Lithuania Baltic Events and Marketing...

But does the ticket seller bear any responsibility in such a situation? It seems not.

The board member of the ticket-selling company Biļešu serviss, Liga Blaua, insists that selling tickets and organizing events are two different services: "The ticket seller is not the event organizer, and the event organizer is not the ticket seller. It is clear that we are connected, but these responsibilities are stipulated in the terms of use of the online store and in the 'Need to Know' section, so that consumers are informed."

The company confirmed that Biļešu serviss evaluates its partners in cooperation. Given that the event organizer had previously successfully organized concerts both in Latvia and Lithuania, there were no suspicions of any fraudulent actions.

That is: the ticket seller will not refund your money if the organizer cancels the event.

What Should Viewers Do?

The affected individuals will have to contact the event organizer themselves. In this case, it is the court-appointed insolvency administrator or submit an application in the Electronic Insolvency Accounting System (EMUS).

If the insolvency administrator also rejects the application for a refund after all documents have been submitted, this decision can be appealed in court within a month.

In general, Riga viewers who did not hear the songs of Celentano are unlikely to see their money either.
