According to initial information available to the police, the child who died as a result of the traffic accident caused by a drunk motorcyclist in Tukums municipality on Wednesday may have been without a helmet, the State Police reported to the LETA agency.
It has also been established that the motorcycle driver was not wearing a helmet.
The police confirmed that both participants in the accident were members of the same family.
As previously reported, on Wednesday around 19:00 in the Smārde parish of Tukums municipality, a man, while under the influence of alcohol (0.95 promille) and without a driver's license, was riding a Yamaha motorcycle on a local road. He lost control, and the motorcycle overturned.
As a result of the accident, a minor passenger on the motorcycle was killed. The motorcycle driver sustained physical injuries.
The State Police have initiated a criminal process regarding the incident, and all circumstances of the event are being established.
On the same day, another motorcyclist died in a traffic accident in Aizkraukle municipality. Shortly after 14:30 in the Sēta parish of Aizkraukle municipality, a man riding a Suzuki motorcycle veered off the roadway and overturned.
As a result of the traffic accident, the motorcycle driver, a man born in 1963, was killed.
