On Wednesday in Tukums municipality, a child died as a result of an accident caused by a drunken motorcyclist, the State Police (SP) reported to LETA.
Around 19:00 in the Smarde parish of Tukums municipality, a man, while in a state of alcohol intoxication — 0.95 promille — and without a driver's license, was riding a Yamaha motorcycle on a local road. The man lost control, and the vehicle overturned.
As a result of the incident, the passenger of the motorcycle — a minor child — died. The motorcyclist also sustained physical injuries.
A criminal process has been initiated regarding the incident, and all circumstances of what happened are being established.
Meanwhile, another motorcyclist died in an accident in the Aizkraukle municipality. Shortly after 14:30 in the Setece parish of Aizkraukle municipality, a man riding a Suzuki motorcycle veered off the roadway and overturned.
As a result of the traffic accident, the motorcycle driver — a man born in 1963 — died.
A criminal process has also been initiated regarding this incident, and the police are investigating the circumstances of the event.
Yesterday at nine in the morning, a call was received in the Cirma parish of Ludza municipality, where an accident involving a passenger car occurred. At the scene, it was established that the car was in a ditch, and two people were inside. Using hydraulic tools, rescuers from the State Fire and Rescue Service freed the victims and handed them over to the Emergency Medical Service team. The rescuers also disconnected the battery terminals, and the work was completed around half past nine in the morning, the service reported to LETA.
In total, 155 traffic accidents were registered in Latvia over the past 24 hours, in which 19 people were injured, and two died.
Four people were penalized yesterday for driving a vehicle under the influence of alcohol, three of whom were in a state of severe intoxication, with a level of at least 1.5 promille.
In total, 381 administrative violations of traffic rules were recorded yesterday, including 156 for speeding.
