Retirees Started Pretending to Be Victims of Fraudsters and Stealing Money

In Russia, elderly women have started pretending to be victims of fraudsters and stealing money.

In Russia, there have emerged elderly female fraudsters who sell apartments and then pretend to be victims of scammers in order to receive money while not parting with their homes.

So far, several such cases have been recorded. One of the deceived individuals reported that in 2023, she purchased an apartment from a 71-year-old woman after responding to an advertisement posted on a popular website. The buyer requested a certificate from a psychiatric and neurological dispensary from the owner and asked her to explain the reason for selling the property — the retiree claimed she was going to buy a car for her son and move to an already existing country house.

Two weeks after the transaction was completed, the former owner was supposed to vacate the property; however, this did not happen. Instead, she called the buyer and stated that she was forced to sell the apartment and now had nowhere to live. Furthermore, the retiree allegedly transferred the money received from the sale to unknown accounts.

The new owner contacted the police and learned that the retiree had already filed a complaint against her, claiming that the buyer was in collusion with fraudsters. The case is now being examined in court.
