On Thursday, in the municipality of Zalece in the Ludza region, border guards prevented an attempt to illegally cross the state border of Latvia towards Russia by an individual holding a refugee travel document issued by the Netherlands, the State Border Guard (SBG) reported to the LETA agency.
After receiving photographs of a suspicious individual moving towards the Latvian-Russian border from surveillance cameras, the border patrol immediately set out to investigate.
As a result of the search operations in the border area, a man was found. During the interrogation, it was revealed that he intended to cross the state border of Latvia towards Russia.
Administrative proceedings have been initiated against the man for violating the first part of Article 18 of the Law on the State Border of the Republic of Latvia, according to which individuals aged 15 and older must have a special permit issued by the State Border Guard (SBG) to be in the border zone.
