The State Police received a report from a man about a robbery in the Agenskalns neighborhood of Riga.
According to the victim, the incident occurred as follows: he was relaxing on the terrace of a bar on the night of September 14 when two unknown men approached him. A conflict arose between them "on the grounds of personal animosity." The men behaved aggressively and beat the victim, taking his mobile phone and wallet.
After the incident, the victim took a taxi home and then sought help from law enforcement authorities.
What happened next: the police received recordings from the bar's surveillance cameras. After identifying the possible criminals, they arrested both on September 25.
The suspects (born in 1985 and 1978) had previously been convicted multiple times, including for property crimes. Importantly, they had only recently been released from prison, where they were serving sentences for other offenses.
A criminal case has been initiated regarding the incident under Article 176, Part 2 of the Criminal Law (robbery committed by a group of individuals by prior agreement). This crime is punishable by imprisonment for up to eight years with or without confiscation of property and a probation period of up to three years.
On September 27, the court remanded both suspects in custody.
