The announcement of a new state support program for the purchase of eco-friendly vehicles has sparked lively discussions in society. Social media users have recently noticed a strange coincidence.

Specifically, immediately after the government announced large-scale financial incentives, prices for certain electric vehicles sharply increased on several advertising websites, reports 360TV Ziņas.

This raises concerns about whether government subsidies are distorting the market intentionally and whether local car dealers are exploiting the situation for their own benefit at the expense of taxpayers. The advertisements show that the price of the same electric vehicle increased by several thousand euros after the announcement of the program.

Industry expert Jānis Bekers confirms that there have indeed been cases of artificially inflated prices for cars in the market. He strongly recommends that buyers consult professionals who can objectively assess the real value of a vehicle. As an alternative to the price speculation of local sellers, the expert advises considering purchasing a car directly from Europe through independent suppliers.

To receive state support, the buyer must first choose a seller who officially participates in the program. It is the dealer who handles all the necessary paperwork, and the buyer acquires the vehicle at a discount corresponding to the amount of the subsidy. However, in practice, this mechanism does not always guarantee a lower final price for the consumer if the initial price of the vehicle has been raised in advance.

Minister of Climate and Energy Kaspars Meļņiks noted that more than 120 sellers have already registered for the program, and the ministry has taken note of negative signals. The minister emphasized that if such violations are detected, unscrupulous dealers will be excluded from the state support program.

Economists and financial analysts urge a broader assessment of the situation, pointing out that the open and deliberate price increases in the local market are more likely to be isolated exceptional cases.

Karlis Purgaļis explains that the rise in prices for electric vehicles in the secondary market has other global reasons.

According to him, there is currently a sharp increase in demand for electric vehicles across Europe, driven by rising fuel prices following the onset of the conflict with Iran. Thus, local price changes coincided with overall market trends and the rising cost of resources worldwide.

The state support program itself is designed for the long term — until the end of 2029, with a total of 40 million euros allocated for these purposes. This decision was made because the previous program, with a budget of 30 million euros, generated enormous interest, and the funding ran out ahead of schedule, allowing residents to purchase more than 6,000 eco-friendly vehicles.

In the new period, the amount of state support for the purchase of one electric vehicle will range from three to nine thousand euros.

Under the program, particularly favorable conditions and additional financial bonuses are provided for large families. Residents who are willing to scrap their old internal combustion engine vehicle or donate it to support the Armed Forces of Ukraine will also be eligible for larger state support.
