Private companies are capturing the market most effectively.

China's electric vehicle charging network continued to expand rapidly in January 2026, and by the end of last month, the number of such charging devices reached 20.7 million units, according to data from the National Energy Administration of China.

According to the agency's data, this figure increased sharply by 49.6 percent compared to the same period last year.

Among these devices, about 4.8 million were public, while 15.9 million were private, which represents an increase of 31.2 percent and 56.1 percent year-on-year, respectively.

According to the data, by the end of January, the total nominal power of public electric vehicle charging devices reached 226 million kW, or an average of about 47.01 kW per charging device.

The expansion of the charging network in China was driven by the growing popularity of environmentally friendly electric vehicles among Chinese consumers in recent years.

According to the China Association of Automobile Manufacturers, in 2025, the production of new energy vehicles in the country gained momentum: production and sales reached 16.626 million and 16.49 million units respectively, increasing by 29 percent and 28.2 percent year-on-year.

In October 2025, China announced a three-year action plan to improve the charging infrastructure for electric vehicles in the country, aimed at creating a nationwide network of 28 million charging devices with a total capacity of over 300 million kW by the end of 2027.
