The volume of cargo and mail transported grew by 9%.
In 2025, the Chinese civil aviation market showed rapid growth and set historical records in three key operational indicators. This is evidenced by official data published by the Civil Aviation Administration of China (CAAC).
According to the CAAC's statistical report on the operational activities of civil transport airports for 2025, the total passenger traffic of such airports reached nearly 1.53 billion person-times, showing an increase of 4.8 percent year-on-year. The volume of cargo and mail transported grew by 9 percent to 21.86 million tons, and the number of aircraft takeoffs and landings reached nearly 12.45 million, which is 0.4 percent higher than the previous year's figure.
As noted in the document, as of the end of 2025, there were 270 certified transport airports in China, of which 266 operated regular flights.
Last year, the number of airports in China with an annual passenger traffic of over 10 million person-times reached 41, accounting for 83.7 percent of the total passenger traffic in the Chinese civil aviation sector.
Shanghai Pudong International Airport (East China) and Guangzhou Baiyun International Airport (South China) ranked first and second in the country in terms of passenger traffic and cargo turnover. According to the data presented, in 2025, each of them served over 80 million passengers.
As of 2025, there were 35 transport airports in the country with a cargo turnover of over 100,000 tons per year, which accounted for 93.6 percent of the cargo and mail transported by all transport airports in China last year.
