Paramount Pictures has officially acquired Warner Bros. for $111 billion, reports Yahoo Finance.
Initially, the film studio was to be purchased by Netflix, but Paramount outbid its offer, and two days ago Netflix withdrew from the competition. Now the deal must be approved by regulators.
Among the films that will change ownership are 'Harry Potter', 'The Lord of the Rings', 'Friends', 'Game of Thrones', and 'The Big Bang Theory'.
'Netflix had a legitimate right to match Paramount's offer. As you all know, in the end, they decided not to do so. As a result, an agreement was signed with Paramount this morning. This is where things stand now,' said Warner Bros. Chief Revenue and Strategy Officer Bruce Campbell.
Reuters sources expect that Paramount will easily receive approval from the European Union antitrust authorities.
On December 5, 2025, it was announced that Netflix is buying Warner Bros., as well as the streaming service HBO Max and the HBO channel, for $82.7 billion. Netflix was prepared to acquire the film corporation at a price of $27.75 per share. The companies announced the conclusion of the deal. It was expected to close within 12–18 months.
However, on December 8, Paramount offered to buy Warner Bros. Discovery for $108 billion in cash at a price of $30 per share. Then they raised the offer slightly to $111 billion.
Warner Bros., wisely reasoning that $29 billion doesn’t just lie around, accepted Paramount's generous offer.
