A queue of 26 people has lined up for the scandalous airBaltic council: how much do they pay there?

Twenty-six candidates have applied for the competition for three council member positions at the Latvian national airline airBaltic, the Ministry of Transport reported.

The competition will take place in three stages, with applications submitted by candidates being reviewed and evaluated in the first stage.

The monthly remuneration for the chairperson of the airBaltic council will be up to 3021 euros before taxes, while council members will receive 2718 euros before taxes. To put it bluntly – not much.

It seems that the current council members deliberately lowered the salaries for new members to reduce competition, and along with it, the likelihood that they (the old members) will be outvoted.

Who will receive such a salary? The competition was announced for 1) the position of council member with expertise in finance and auditing, enterprise and team management, and stakeholder management; 2) the position of council member with expertise in corporate governance, risk management, and internal control systems; as well as 3) the position of council member with expertise in air transportation, strategy development, and implementation.

Candidates for the position of airBaltic council member were required to have:

– a higher academic or professional education of the second level in the relevant field of expertise,

– work experience over the last ten years that provides the necessary skill set for the professional execution of council member duties in the specific position,

– as well as at least three years of experience as a board or council member in a medium or large capital company, preferably in a publicly traded or international company, or at least three years of experience in a managerial position in a government or municipal institution in the field of aviation, air transport, or air transportation.

Currently, the council continues to be chaired by interim chair Andrey Martynov, along with interim council members Jurģis Sēdlenieks and Ruta Amtmane. The representative of the national airline of Germany, Lufthansa, and a minority shareholder also continue to serve on the council.
