Growth is there, lag remains: how tourism is recovering in Latvia

The number of nights spent by tourists in Latvian hotels and other accommodation facilities increased by 6.2% in the 11 months of last year compared to the same period in 2024, reaching 4.631 million, according to data from the Central Statistical Bureau.

The number of nights spent by foreign tourists in Latvian hotels increased by 8.5% to 2.857 million in the 11 months of 2025, while the number of nights spent by local tourists grew by 2.6% to 1.774 million.

In total, 2.627 million guests stayed in Latvian tourist accommodation facilities over the 11 months of last year, which is 4.6% more than in the 11 months of 2024, including an increase of 5.5% in the number of foreign guests to 1.557 million and a 3.2% rise in the number of local tourists to 1.07 million.

However, compared to the same period in 2019, the number of guests who stayed in Latvian hotels over the 11 months of last year was 1.4% lower, including a 14.4% decrease in foreign guests, while the number of local guests was 26.6% higher. At the same time, the number of nights spent by guests is lagging 9.9% behind the figures of 2019, including a 20.5% decrease in the number of nights spent by foreign tourists.
