Latvian State Company Sells Trains Built During Khrushchev's Era and Locomotive from Gorbachev's Time

JSC "Pasažieru vilciens" ("Passenger Train") has put up for auction with a descending step 58 electric train cars and one shunting locomotive, according to information on the electronic trading site izsoles.ta.gov.lv.

The auction conditions state that 58 units of ER2 and ER2T electric train cars — motor cars, driving cars, and trailer cars — as well as a TGM-40 locomotive, whose service life has ended, are being put up for bidding.

The ER2 and ER2T electric train cars were produced at the Riga Carriage Factory and are intended for suburban and regional passenger transport. The ER2 series cars were manufactured from 1962 to 1984, while the ER2T series cars were produced from 1986 to 1998 as an improved modification of the ER2.

The TGM-40 locomotive, on the other hand, was produced in 1987. It is a low-power shunting locomotive with a diesel engine and hydraulic transmission.

The auctions are expected to conclude on January 27 of this year.

In previous electronic auctions, more than 50 out of 114 offered electric train cars were sold for nearly 612,000 euros excluding value-added tax (VAT), the company informed. Thus, one car was sold on average for 12,000 euros, which is the price of scrap metal.
