The European Union (EU) has set a goal to completely stop imports of Russian gas by the end of 2027, as stated in the agreement reached in Brussels between the governments of EU member states and representatives of the European Parliament, LETA reports citing DPA.
According to the plan, the ban on imports of Russian gas will take effect for short-term contracts signed before June 17, 2025: from April 25, 2026, for liquefied natural gas and from June 17, 2026, for pipeline gas.
For long-term contracts for liquefied natural gas, the ban will come into force on January 1, 2027, as part of the 19th package of EU sanctions against Russia.
Long-term contracts for pipeline gas will be completed between September 30 and November 1, 2027, depending on the achievement of storage filling targets.
