Belarus stated that it does not intend to make exceptions for the 5,000 Lithuanian trucks that are stranded in the country due to Lithuania's decision to close the border for a month.
As reported by "European Truth", this was stated by a representative of the Belarusian Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
In Minsk, they reminded of the statements made by Lithuanian Prime Minister Ingrida Šimonytė regarding the dialogue with Belarus on the return of trucks that were in Belarus at the time of Vilnius's decision to close the border and did not manage to return.
"We remind you that the decision to close the border was made exclusively by the Lithuanian side unilaterally. Belarus is not responsible for its negative consequences," the Belarusian Ministry of Foreign Affairs stated.
"We urge the Lithuanian authorities to restore the normal functioning of border crossings... This simple and logical solution is eagerly awaited by tens of thousands of citizens of both countries and the EU as a whole... There can be no talk of selective measures," they added in the Ministry.
It should be noted that Lithuania closed its border with Belarus, and a couple of days later, Lithuanian Prime Minister Ingrida Šimonytė appealed to Belarus with a request to allow about 5,000 Lithuanian trucks and semi-trailers that cannot return home due to the border closure.
Since November 1, Belarus has banned the movement of all trucks with European registration on its territory and required them to stop in specially designated places – except for those carrying certain categories of goods or returning home empty to EU countries.
