Flights from Russia to Europe - Expensive, via Kuwait

Jazeera Airways may expand its flight program to popular "Russian" destinations such as India and the Maldives.

Jazeera Airways plans to launch flights from Russia to Europe with a layover in Kuwait in 2026, the airline's CEO reported. "We are primarily looking at Paris, Milan, London, and other European capitals," he noted. The CEO of Jazeera Airways, Barathan Pasupathi, told Kommersant that the airline is very interested in "connecting passengers from Sochi and Moscow to these hard-to-reach and very expensive markets for them."

Additionally, according to him, Jazeera Airways may expand its flight program to popular "Russian" destinations such as India and the Maldives. The airline is also considering many other destinations, as there is a strong tourist demand from Russia. According to Pasupathi, flights to Montenegro, for example, were born in response to a request from a tour operator.

Currently, Jazeera Airways operates regular daily flights from Moscow and Sochi, as well as participates in charter flights from other cities in Russia. The airline plans to launch new regular flights from Russia, primarily from Kazan, St. Petersburg, Nalchik, and Mineralnye Vody.

According to the airline's CEO, a large portion of the traffic from Russia consists of transit passengers flying through Kuwait to other countries. The airline's route network includes 65 destinations. Among the most popular summer destinations for Russians, Pasupathi highlighted Tivat (Montenegro), Larnaca (Cyprus), Budapest (Hungary), and Sarajevo (Bosnia and Herzegovina). In winter, Russians are drawn to warmth: to Bali (Indonesia), Phuket and Bangkok (Thailand), Colombo (Sri Lanka), and Abu Dhabi (UAE).

In total, in 2024, Jazeera Airways transported 70,100 passengers on flights between Russia and Kuwait, with nearly 80,000 from January to September of this year.

Jazeera Airways is a Kuwaiti airline founded in 2004. The airline's headquarters is located at Kuwait International Airport. It operates regular flights to the Middle East, Nepal, Pakistan, India, Sri Lanka, and Europe. The airline is the second national carrier of Kuwait. In 2018, Jazeera Airways opened its own terminal at Kuwait International Airport. It is claimed that this facility is the first owned, built, and operated by a private airline in the Middle East. It features a dedicated check-in area for the airline's passengers, a business lounge, direct access to the boarding gate, and parking for 350 vehicles.
