Hugo

The Latvian name Hugo comes from the German name 'Hug', which means 'mind', 'spirit', or 'thinking person'. In the early Middle Ages, the name Hugo was popular among Germanic tribes such as the Franks and Goths. Subsequently, with the spread of Christianity, the name became popular in Latin Europe and among Catholics. Translations of the name Hugo into different languages also have interesting meanings. For example, in English and French, the name remains unchanged - Hugo, while in Spanish it is translated as Ugo. In Russian culture, the French variant of the name - Gyuго - is commonly used.
