Iranian Drone Attacked Cargo Ship in the Strait of Hormuz

A cargo ship flying the flag of Singapore was damaged after an attack in the Strait of Hormuz. According to the American side, the strike was carried out by an Iranian drone. There are no casualties.

The Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) of Iran attacked a commercial vessel flying the flag of Singapore in the Strait of Hormuz. This was reported by CBS News.

According to the British organization UK Maritime Trade Operations (UKMTO), on Thursday evening, the cargo ship off the coast of Oman was struck by an "unknown projectile." Later, an American official informed CBS News that the ship was attacked by an Iranian drone.

As a result of the strike, the bridge was damaged; however, no crew members were injured. Despite the incident, the ship continued on its route.

The Strait of Hormuz remains one of the world's most important maritime transport corridors. The route approved by the U.S. for vessels runs along the coast of Oman, while Iran insists on using the northern route, which passes closer to its territorial waters.

The Hormuz Strait Authority (PGSA), established by Tehran, previously stated that passage through routes not approved by the agency would not be considered safe and would not be covered by insurance guarantees.

In recent weeks, tensions in the Strait of Hormuz have remained high amid the standoff between Iran, the U.S., and their allies. A significant portion of the world's oil supplies passes through the strait, so any incidents in this area raise serious concerns for international shipping and energy markets.
