The Lithuanian army announced its readiness to join the operation in the Strait of Hormuz – under the leadership of the United States.
According to the Lithuanian army, as of Friday, the team of demining specialists from the Navy is fully prepared to carry out the assigned tasks. Upon receiving the appropriate order, they can be deployed to the operation area within ten days.
"About ten Lithuanian soldiers are ready for deployment, are in full combat readiness, and are awaiting a request from our allies," said Defense Minister Robertas Kairys to LRT.
According to him, the mechanism of action has already been practiced: personnel have been prepared in advance, the level of combat readiness has been increased, so after receiving an official request, the unit will be able to depart within ten days along with all necessary equipment and vehicles.
"For our part, we have always emphasized that Lithuania is a reliable ally and is ready to participate in ensuring the security of the Strait of Hormuz," the minister noted.
In early June, the Seimas authorized the deployment of up to 40 military personnel and civilian employees of the national defense system to participate in operations in the Strait of Hormuz. They are to take part in demining missions.
As reported by bb.lv, the U.S. and Iran have signed a peace treaty, the American blockade has been lifted, and tankers are resuming movement through the Strait of Hormuz.
