A Skyscraper Over a Kilometer High is Being Built in Saudi Arabia: The Project Has Entered a New Stage

The construction of the Jeddah Tower in Saudi Arabia has reached an important stage. Upon completion, the skyscraper will become the tallest building in the world, exceeding the one-kilometer mark and leaving behind the current record holder — the Burj Khalifa in Dubai.

Saudi Arabia continues the implementation of one of the most ambitious construction projects of the 21st century. The Jeddah Tower, being built in the city of Jeddah, has already risen above 400 meters and is approaching another key stage of construction.

According to Newsweek, citing project manager John Peronto, builders are currently close to completing the upper observation deck, which will be located approximately at the level of the 160th floor. Reaching this mark will be one of the most important milestones of the project.

Upon completion, the tower will exceed 1,000 meters in height. This will allow the Jeddah Tower to become the tallest building on the planet, surpassing the current record holder — the Burj Khalifa in Dubai, which stands at 828 meters.

The project is designed by renowned architects Adrian Smith and Gordon Gill. Notably, Smith previously participated in the design of the Burj Khalifa.

According to Peronto, the building has almost reached the 104th floor to date. Construction is progressing at a rate of about four meters per week, and if this pace is maintained, the 500-meter mark will be reached in approximately six months.

The tower will be the centerpiece of the large-scale Jeddah Economic City project, which is being implemented as part of the national Vision 2030 program. Its goal is to diversify the Saudi Arabian economy and reduce the country's dependence on oil revenues.

Unlike several other megaprojects in the kingdom that have faced delays and revisions, the construction of the Jeddah Tower is currently on schedule. The completion of the skyscraper is planned for August 2028.

One of the main engineering challenges remains the delivery of concrete to a record height. The highest concrete pumping system in the world will be used for the construction.

"We will use the highest concrete pump among all buildings on the planet," emphasized John Peronto.

According to him, creating a reliable and cost-effective system to operate in such extreme conditions has become one of the most complex engineering challenges of the project.

If construction is completed on schedule, the Jeddah Tower will become a new global symbol of modern architecture and engineering. The project will not only set a height record but also become one of the key elements of Saudi Arabia's large-scale modernization program.
