Europe to be hit by the first powerful heatwave: temperatures will rise to +43 degrees

In the second half of June, a sharp rise in temperatures is expected in several European countries. Meteorologists warn that a "heat dome" will form over Western and Southern Europe, bringing a prolonged wave of extreme heat.

After a relatively cool start to June, the weather in Europe is preparing for a sharp change in scenario. According to meteorologists, the influence of a vast anticyclone will strengthen over the western and southwestern parts of the continent, forming what is known as a "heat dome." Under its influence, tropical air masses will gradually accumulate and further warm up, leading to a prolonged heatwave.

The highest temperatures are already being recorded in southern Europe. In the coming days, the heat will intensify and cover a significant part of the continent. The highest readings are expected in Portugal, Spain, central and southern regions of France, as well as in Italy.

According to forecasters, in these regions, air temperatures will regularly reach +35...+43 degrees. The main heat center will remain over the Iberian Peninsula, where the influence of the anticyclone will be most prolonged.

The hot air mass will also affect Central Europe. In Poland, preliminary estimates suggest that from June 19 to June 22, temperatures may rise to +30...+36 degrees. However, the heat here is likely to be less prolonged than in the south of the continent.

Meteorologists warn that extremely high temperatures can pose serious health risks, especially for the elderly, children, and those working outdoors. Official forecasts take into account air temperatures in the shade at a height of two meters, while under direct sunlight and in large cities, it may feel 10–20 degrees higher.

Moreover, prolonged heat can exacerbate drought, increase the load on energy systems, and raise the risk of wildfires. In several areas of Western and Southern Europe, temperatures will exceed the climatic norm by 8–16 degrees.

Forecasters predict that the upcoming heatwave could become one of the strongest since the beginning of the year. Residents and tourists are advised to closely monitor weather service warnings, avoid prolonged exposure to the sun, and maintain hydration.
