Trump Wants to Increase the U.S. Military Budget to a Record $1.5 Trillion

U.S. President Donald Trump has called on Republicans in Congress to support an additional $350 billion for the Pentagon. If the initiative is approved, the total U.S. defense spending could reach an unprecedented $1.5 trillion.

U.S. President Donald Trump has urged Republicans in Congress to support an additional $350 billion for the Department of Defense. This funding is intended to be part of a large-scale plan to increase the country's military spending.

According to Roll Call, the White House is proposing to fund this through a separate budget reconciliation bill. This mechanism will allow Republicans to pass the package with a simple majority, without needing to secure support from Democrats in the Senate.

These funds will be allocated in addition to the main defense budget. Previously, the House Armed Services Committee had already approved a defense funding bill of approximately $1.15 trillion.

The additional $350 billion is intended to be passed as a separate package. If approved, the total U.S. defense request for the fiscal year 2027 will amount to about $1.5 trillion — making it one of the largest military budgets in the country's history.

According to The Washington Post, part of the additional funds is planned to be directed towards the development of the navy, construction of new ships, procurement of ammunition, and other priority programs of the administration.

An additional factor has been the need to replenish weapon stocks following military operations by the U.S. and Israel against Iran. Washington believes that the current international situation requires accelerated strengthening of the country's defense capabilities.

Experts note that Trump's initiative reflects a course towards further strengthening the American military and the defense industry amid ongoing tensions in several regions of the world.

If Congress supports the White House's proposal, the U.S. will not only increase defense spending to a record level but also gain additional resources for modernizing the armed forces and replenishing strategic weapon reserves.
