The President of Serbia, Aleksandar Vucic, stated that the country is not considering the cancellation of the visa-free regime with the Russian Federation as part of the euro-integration process. He said this during the broadcast of the program Cirilica with Milomir Marić, commenting on media reports about possible changes in visa policy.
Earlier, the chairman of the Serbian parliament's committee on diaspora and Serbs in the region, Dragan Stanojevic, stated that the introduction of visas for Russian citizens is allegedly being discussed in the country. These statements have caused a wide public outcry.
Vucic emphasized that the information is not true and called it "disinformation." According to him, he personally clarified the situation with the parliament's leadership and received confirmation that no decisions or votes on this issue had been conducted.
"I heard the news that Serbia is introducing visas for Russians, and I really did not know what it was about… Someone simply allowed disinformation to harm Serbia," the president stated.
He also noted that Belgrade does not intend to cancel the visa-free regime with Russia, even despite pressure from the European Union. According to him, such decisions will not be made, and if they arise, they can be promptly reconsidered.
Serbia remains a candidate country for European Union membership and has been negotiating membership since 2014. At the same time, Brussels has repeatedly emphasized the need to align Belgrade's foreign policy with the EU's position, including the sanctions regime against Russia.
