On the night of May 29, several Russian regions were subjected to a massive drone attack. According to local authorities and media reports, the strikes targeted areas of major oil refining enterprises in Volgograd and Yaroslavl.
Strategic oil refineries in Volgograd and Yaroslavl were under attack. Due to the threat, temporary restrictions were imposed on transportation and airport operations.
This was reported by Telegram channels, Yaroslavl Governor Mikhail Evraev, and advisor to the Ukrainian Minister of Defense Sergey Sternenko.
According to Evraev, Yaroslavl region was attacked by allegedly Ukrainian drones at night. As a result, transportation from Yaroslavl towards Moscow was temporarily blocked. This area houses the industrial zone with the Yaroslavl Oil Refinery.
In addition, Rosaviatsiya announced a temporary suspension of operations at Yaroslavl airport.
"Today, a mass attack by Ukrainian UAVs was carried out on the region. Most of the drones were shot down, but some hit industrial fuel storage facilities. Special services are extinguishing the fire. There are no casualties," the governor stated.
According to Sternenko, drones attacked the Volgograd Oil Refinery as well as the area of the Yaroslavl Oil Refinery. The minister's advisor noted that "Lukoil-Volgogradneftepererabotka" is the largest oil refining enterprise in the Volgograd region and one of Lukoil's key assets. The plant processes over 15 million tons of oil annually and produces gasoline, diesel fuel, and aviation fuel.
