U.S. President Donald Trump has decided not to attend the wedding of his son Donald Trump Jr., explaining this by the tense international situation and the necessity to remain in Washington.
Donald Trump confirmed that he will not attend the wedding of his son Donald Trump Jr., which will take place this weekend in the Bahamas.
According to the U.S. president, the reason is "government-related circumstances" that require him to remain in Washington.
Trump stated that he wanted to be with his son and his future wife, Bettina Anderson, but believes it is necessary to stay in the White House "during this important period of time."
Earlier, the American leader hinted that due to the war with Iran, the current moment is not suitable for foreign trips and private events. Later, the White House announced that Trump also canceled a planned trip to his golf club in New Jersey.
The official reasons for the heightened tension have not been specified, but the U.S. continues negotiations for a possible cessation of the war in the Middle East.
Currently, Iran is considering a new American proposal for conflict resolution. At the same time, the Chief of Army of Pakistan has arrived in Tehran — the country is acting as one of the mediators in the negotiations.
Importantly, Trump's decision to forgo even a family event underscores how serious Washington considers the current international situation.
Additional tension has also arisen around Cuba. The U.S. has intensified pressure on Havana and made accusations against former Cuban leader Raul Castro. Against this backdrop, American military forces have sent an aircraft carrier and accompanying ships to the Caribbean region.
In recent weeks, the Trump administration has been trying to negotiate with Iran while simultaneously increasing military presence in strategically important regions.
Trump himself has previously stated that he would prefer a diplomatic resolution to the conflict but has not ruled out new military actions against Iran.
