UK Trade Policy Minister Chris Bryant apologized several times for the decision to ease sanctions against Russia, Bloomberg reports.

During a speech in Parliament, Bryant stated that this step, which was a consequence of a similar decision by the administration of American President Donald Trump, was made "clumsily."

"We acted clumsily, and this is entirely my fault, and I apologize: we ultimately created the wrong impression of what we are trying to do," he said.

British officials told the agency that this step weakens the government's arguments for G7 allies to maintain and strengthen sanctions against Russia.

Earlier that same day, Bryant tried to justify the decision, stating that these licenses are "temporary and targeted." The minister explained the decision by the situation in the Middle East.

As reported by bb.lv, the UK government applied an exception to the sanctions against Russia, allowing the import of diesel and aviation fuel produced from Russian crude oil in third countries.
