On Tuesday evening, Russian forces attacked Kryvyi Rih — the hometown of Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky. As a result of the strike, two people were killed, among the injured is a nine-month-old girl in critical condition.
Russian drones struck Kryvyi Rih in the Dnipropetrovsk region of Ukraine in the evening. According to local authorities, at least two people were killed and four others were injured.
The victims of the attack were a 65-year-old woman and a 43-year-old man.
Among the injured is a nine-month-old girl. The head of the military administration of the Dnipropetrovsk region, Oleksandr Hanža, reported that the child is in critical condition in the hospital.
According to Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, the strike was aimed at a residential building.
"The cynical strike by Russian drones targeted an ordinary residential building in Kryvyi Rih with no military purpose whatsoever," Zelensky stated.
The attack occurred immediately after the end of a three-day ceasefire declared by Russia, which was in effect from May 9 to 11. On Tuesday, the Russian Ministry of Defense officially confirmed the resumption of the so-called 'special military operation'.
What is important to understand is that Kryvyi Rih has remained one of the constant targets of Russian strikes since the beginning of the full-scale war. The city holds not only industrial but also symbolic significance, as it is Zelensky's hometown.
After the attack, the Ukrainian president once again urged allies not to ease pressure on Moscow and to continue supporting the Ukrainian air defense system.
According to him, only increased pressure on Russia and strengthening Ukraine's defense can bring an end to the war closer.
Amid ongoing attacks, discussions about the possibility of new negotiations and ceasefires remain extremely tense. Ukraine has repeatedly stated that short-term pauses do not lead to a cessation of strikes on civilian infrastructure.
Throughout the war, Kryvyi Rih has already been subjected to missile and drone attacks multiple times, including on residential areas and infrastructure facilities.
