The Russian side sent a note to all accredited diplomatic missions at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs urging them to ensure the evacuation of embassy staff in Kyiv. The accredited missions include the Latvian embassy in Russia.

The Russian Federation threatens to strike "decision-making centers" in Kyiv if Ukraine carries out strikes during the May 9 parade in Moscow.

The Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs sent a note to foreign embassies and international organizations warning of a possible strike on Kyiv in the event of attacks during the May 9 celebrations.

The document states that foreign diplomatic missions are recommended to "ensure the timely evacuation from the city of Kyiv of personnel of diplomatic and other representations, as well as citizens."

The note also states that Russian military forces will retaliate "including against decision-making centers" in the event of "attempts by Ukrainian authorities to disrupt the celebration of the 81st anniversary of Victory."

The Latvian ambassador to Ukraine is currently Andris Pildes. He took office in 2025, replacing Ilgvars Kļava.
