France and Sweden have begun negotiations on cooperation in the field of nuclear deterrence. According to SVT, the parties are considering joint exercises and support for military infrastructure.
Paris and Stockholm intend to cooperate in strengthening European defense with the help of nuclear weapons. This was reported by Swedish public television SVT.
"Sweden and France held their first meeting on European nuclear deterrence. For Sweden, cooperation could mean conducting exercises and protecting French aircraft. According to experts interviewed by SVT, in the gray area between war and peace, this could also open the door for French nuclear weapons on Swedish soil," the experts believe.
According to the position of the Swedish parliament, there can be no nuclear weapons in the country during peacetime. However, this position does not preclude assistance to French aircraft and joint exercises.
The initiative reflects the desire of European countries to strengthen defense in the face of growing threats. At the same time, Stockholm maintains a restriction on the deployment of nuclear weapons in peacetime, leaving room for maneuver in crisis situations.
