Estonia Supported Strikes on Russia but Reached Out to Ukraine with a Request - Bloomberg

Estonian Prime Minister Kristjan Mihal once again expressed support for Kyiv's campaign to strike port facilities in the Baltic region of Russia following incidents involving drones that violated the airspace of Estonia and Finland, Bloomberg reported on Monday, citing the UNIAN agency.

"It is completely clear to us that Ukraine is defending itself and, in the framework of self-defense, is destroying the Russian money-making machine, that is, primarily various port facilities," said Mihal at the European Political Community (EPC) summit in Yerevan, the capital of Armenia.

The publication noted that the Prime Minister of Estonia ultimately placed the blame for these incidents on the Kremlin. The head of government pointed out that Russia is striking civilian facilities in Ukraine, which are by no means military targets.

The article also states that European Union countries have recently faced numerous instances of airspace violations by drones as Ukraine expanded its attacks deep into Russian territory, targeting ports and energy infrastructure near the borders with the three Baltic countries and Finland.

At the same time, the head of government called for efforts to ensure that the consequences of drone attacks do not affect the territory of Estonia.

"Our simple request or message is that debris should not enter our airspace," said Mihal.

Finland, a steadfast ally of Ukraine and critic of Russia, took a similarly balanced position when Prime Minister Petteri Orpo spoke on Sunday in Yerevan with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky.

The Prime Minister of Estonia acknowledged that EU and NATO member states bordering Russia and Ukraine are facing technical difficulties in tracking and shooting down low-flying military drones crossing their borders.

According to Mihal, Estonia is purchasing new radar systems and already has air defense assets.
