As a result of a powerful explosion at a pyrotechnic factory in southeastern China, 21 people have died and another 61 have been injured, Chinese media reported on Tuesday, according to LETA citing AFP.
The explosion occurred on Monday afternoon at a factory in the city of Liuyang, Hunan province.
Television footage shows destroyed buildings.
After the explosion, a fire broke out, prompting the evacuation of people within a three-kilometer radius around the factory.
No information has been provided regarding the cause of the explosion.
Police have detained the management of the enterprise.
Liuyang is home to numerous pyrotechnic factories that produce about 60% of all fireworks sold in China and 70% of the fireworks exported by China.
