In Athens on Tuesday, a man opened fire on people in a social security institution and in a courthouse, injuring several individuals, Greek authorities report, according to LETA citing AP.
Greek media reports that the shooter was an 89-year-old man.
The armed suspect first opened fire in a social security office in central Athens, injuring one employee. Police who arrived at the scene provided medical assistance to the victim; however, the shooter fled.
Later, the same man opened fire on the first floor of the courthouse, injuring several people, police reported.
Police found the firearm used in the attacks, but the assailant has not yet been apprehended.
Reports from the state broadcaster ERT showed ambulance crews carrying at least three people out of the courthouse and placing them into ambulances.
The motive for the shooting has not yet been established. ERT reported that after the shooting in the courthouse, the shooter scattered envelopes with documents on the floor, indicating that they were the reason for his actions.
In Greece, where gun ownership is permitted but strictly regulated, gun violence is relatively rare.
