The highest annual increase in the number of migrants was recorded in Spain.
The number of migrants in the EU reached a record 64.2 million in 2025. In comparison, in 2010, there were only 40 million migrants living in the European Union, according to a report by the Migration Research and Analysis Center at the Rockwool Foundation in Berlin. Among all EU countries, the largest number of people born abroad currently resides in Germany - nearly 18 million, 72% of whom are of working age, reports Deutsche Welle.
The highest annual increase in the number of migrants was recorded in Spain - by 700,000 people, reaching 9.5 million.
Nearly three-quarters of all asylum applications are submitted in Spain, Italy, France, and Germany, the report states.
