Contrary to Zelensky, Lithuania and Estonia see no signs of Russia preparing to attack the Baltics

Prime Minister Inga Ruginiene says that there are currently no signs that Russia is preparing to attack the Baltic states.

“As of today, there are definitely no signals of a possible attack here and now. Undoubtedly, we cannot rule out the fact that we live in close proximity to a conflict zone. We border Belarus, various provocations are taking place, hybrid attacks, and we face this almost every day,” said Ruginiene to reporters on Wednesday.

“But this is precisely why strong readiness to respond appropriately, to adapt, and to align our strategic security plans with modern realities is necessary,” she added.

Against the backdrop of Russia restricting access to social networks, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky believes that the Kremlin is doing this to prevent unrest in the event of a declaration of general mobilization for a new major offensive against Ukraine or an attack on one of the Baltic states.

Meanwhile, Estonian Foreign Minister Margus Tsahkna, commenting on the Ukrainian president's statement, noted that since the beginning of the full-scale invasion, Kyiv has repeatedly stated the possibility of a Russian attack not only on Ukraine but also on the Baltic countries.

According to the head of Estonian diplomacy, such statements from Ukraine do not contribute to cooperation, and there is no truth in Zelensky's words, as Estonian intelligence does not record concentrations of Russian troops or any preparations for an attack on the Baltic states.

“I agree that we should avoid rhetoric of intimidation, especially since there are no grounds for it. If we saw prerequisites for this, our rhetoric would probably change as well,” Ruginiene noted.
