The EU will allocate 90 billion euros to Ukraine

Valdis Dombrovskis: The EU expects to ensure a more predictable flow of funding for Ukraine in the second half of the year.

The EU will be able to unlock 90 billion in aid for Ukraine in the coming weeks or even days, said European Commissioner for Economy Valdis Dombrovskis. The first tranche is expected to arrive by the end of May or the beginning of June, reported Deutsche Welle correspondent Ksenia Polishchuk from Brussels.

"It is clear that we will be able to unlock this situation," he stated, adding that it concerns two parallel tracks - military and financial support from the EU for Ukraine. According to him, "there are no more delays," although exact timelines have not yet been specified. "Perhaps as early as this week," he noted.

He mentioned that Ukraine's financial needs for the coming months have been met through partners, namely the G7, the IMF, and several non-EU countries, including Norway.

Dombrovskis also confirmed that payments under the ERA (Extraordinary Revenue Acceleration) mechanism, funded by revenues from frozen Russian assets, have been consistently arriving in Ukraine since the beginning of 2026.

In Brussels, it is emphasized that after the completion of procedures, the EU expects to ensure a more predictable flow of funding for Ukraine in the second half of the year.

"We are more secured in funding for this year. The main issue now is related to the funding deficit for 2027," noted the European Commissioner. Although the 90 billion euro package is intended for 2026–2027, it only covers part of Ukraine's needs, and the main risk of funding deficit is now shifting to 2027.
