Due to the strike of the pilots of the German national airline Lufthansa, hundreds of flights were canceled in Germany on Tuesday, LETA reports citing DPA.

Pilots of Lufthansa, as well as the subsidiaries Lufthansa Cargo and Lufthansa CityLine, began a strike on Monday shortly after midnight, which will last for 48 hours. The strike, organized by the VC union, is related to disputes over wages and pensions.

On Monday and Tuesday, more than 1,100 arriving and departing flights were canceled at Frankfurt Airport, and 710 flights were canceled in Munich.

Meanwhile, pilots of the German low-cost airline Eurowings are planning to resume work today.

It is expected that the pilots' strike will be followed by a strike by flight attendants. The UFO union announced on Monday that flight attendants of Lufthansa are preparing to strike on Wednesday and Thursday — this will be the fifth strike by the company's employees this year.

Lufthansa's head of human resources, Michael Niggemann, warned the unions on Monday not to continue a confrontational course, stating that each day of protests weakens the airline.
