A senior US official on Saturday denied reports that Washington agreed to release frozen Iranian assets held in Qatar and other foreign banks, LETA reported citing AFP.
Delegations from Iran and the United States arrived in the capital of Pakistan, Islamabad, for negotiations aimed at ending the war in the Middle East.
Tehran previously stated that any agreement for a complete cessation of hostilities must include the unblocking of sanctioned Iranian assets and the extension of the ceasefire to Lebanon.
An unnamed senior source in Iran told Reuters that the US agreed to unblock the assets and that this move is directly related to ensuring safe navigation in the Strait of Hormuz.
A White House representative, commenting on this information, stated: "That’s not true. The meetings haven’t even started yet."
On Saturday, Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif met with US Vice President James David Vance in Islamabad, his office reported, adding that peace negotiations to end the war in the Middle East have begun.
