The ideological spectrum of the criminals is extremely broad and encompasses different poles.
Researchers from Tel Aviv University analyzed court cases in the USA, France, Canada, and the UK to create a profile of modern perpetrators of antisemitic crimes.
The results of a large-scale study covering the period from 2020 to 2025 refute the stereotype of a single type of antisemite, but the criminals share common traits. Statistics show that most defendants are men acting alone. These "lone wolves" carry out attacks independently of one another, often without prior planning, which creates serious difficulties for law enforcement agencies. Social analysis indicates that there is a high percentage of unemployed individuals, low-income individuals, or those with mental disorders among offenders compared to their share in the general population.
The ideological spectrum of the criminals is extremely broad and encompasses different poles. On one side, there are supporters of "white supremacy," while on the other, there are radicalized Muslims expressing protest against the Middle Eastern conflict.
Although strict hierarchical organizations are absent, radicalization on social media becomes a key factor. Co-author of the study, Dr. Karl Jonker, emphasizes that without strict control over digital platforms, the fight is ineffective, especially against the backdrop of manifestations of antisemitism in the mainstream politics of Western countries.
Professor Uriya Shavit, editor-in-chief of the annual report on antisemitism, commented on the situation to Ynet Global: "To combat antisemitism, we need not slogans and clichés, but real research that could support police and intelligence efforts. The new study aims to fill this gap." The results of the work, which is being prepared for publication, also indicate external influence: in France, there have been cases where Russian entities are allegedly behind attacks on Jews, seeking to destabilize the situation in Western Europe. Analysis of court decisions confirms that impunity only increases the number of crimes and makes them more violent.
