BBC Persian journalist Farzad Seifkaran wrote on social media platform X that Iranian media report "powerful explosions on Kharg Island as a result of an Israeli strike."
U.S. President Donald Trump threatened at the end of March to "destroy Kharg Island," through which the majority of Iran's oil exports pass, if Tehran refuses to cease hostilities.
It was also reported that the U.S. is considering taking control of Kharg to compel Iran to unblock shipping through the Strait of Hormuz.
