WSJ: in the event of a US ground operation, Iran will expand the geography of its attacks.
In the event of a US ground operation, Iran could significantly expand the geography of its attacks, targeting offshore oil platforms, power plants, and other critical infrastructure. The possible response was revealed by The Wall Street Journal, citing analysts' opinions.
"Iran intends to make any US landing as costly and politically unfeasible as possible," noted Sanam Vakil, director of the Middle East and North Africa program at Chatham House.
She also points out that initially, Iran is likely to focus on massive drone strikes, aiming to inflict maximum damage, after which it may expand the scale of its retaliatory actions to include neighboring countries.
Earlier, retired Colonel Douglas Macgregor stated that Iran is prepared for the possibility of a US ground operation, but Washington itself underestimates the readiness of the Islamic Republic. He emphasized that the US lacks infrastructure and does not have the capability to safely deliver troops to the proposed landing site.
