The bill would also ban citizens of China from operating vehicles transporting Pentagon cargo.
Chinese companies operate American port terminals and build cranes capable of tracking military cargo. Citizens of China even own farmland near U.S. military bases.
American lawmakers are asking: who is behind the wheel of the vehicles transporting Department of Defense cargo? Senator Tom Cotton and Representative Elise Stefanik are working to prevent Beijing from using U.S. transportation systems for espionage. They have developed a bill that would prohibit Chinese companies from obtaining contracts for military transportation.
The bill would also ban citizens of China from operating vehicles transporting Pentagon cargo.
Both lawmakers serve on the Armed Services and Intelligence Committees in their respective chambers. Last week, Congresswoman Stefanik stated, "Most Americans would be shocked to learn that U.S. law still does not prohibit members of communist China from obtaining transportation contracts related to U.S. defense projects."
If the law is passed, carriers will undergo enhanced scrutiny to gain access to transport U.S. military equipment.
