Experts believe this is a sign of officials' distrust in domestic weapons.
Mass dismissals of leading specialists in nuclear weapons and missile technology continue in the Chinese army. This may indicate serious problems.
Experts believe this is a sign of officials' distrust in domestic weapons. The Chinese Academy of Engineering has removed information about three leading scientists from its website. Among them are experts in nuclear weapons, missiles, and radar systems.
The Academy did not specify the reasons, however, a week ago, one of the Hong Kong newspapers reported that they are likely under investigation for corruption. And this is not the only case. Over the past three years, at least six scientists have lost their titles.
Shen Ming-shi, an associate professor at one of the Taiwanese universities, believes that these purges are related to recent reports of failures in Chinese weapons in combat conditions.
Their radar allegedly failed in Venezuela when American troops captured Nicolás Maduro. And the surface-to-air missile batteries used by Iran were reportedly destroyed by the initial strikes from Israel and the U.S.
One of the leading Taiwanese analysts believes that the dismissals are connected to the purges in the army earlier this year.
Many high-ranking officials were dismissed, including the second-ranking general in Xi Jinping's team, Zhang Yuxia.
Those arrested likely implicated others, which is why the investigations were expanded.
