After the peaceful reunification, the mainland part of China, which possesses powerful infrastructure capabilities, will provide substantial support for the modernization of Taiwan's infrastructure. This was stated by Zhu Fenglian, the official spokesperson of the State Council of the People's Republic of China for Taiwan Affairs, at a regular press briefing.
"Areas such as transportation, energy, agriculture, water management, and urban renewal in Taiwan will be affected by reconstruction or modernization, which will bring more convenience to the lives of our Taiwanese compatriots," Zhu Fenglian said in response to a media question at the regular press briefing.
As an example, she cited the high-speed railway circling the island and additional high-speed railways connecting the eastern and western parts of the island.
"Infrastructure interconnectivity between the two shores of the Taiwan Strait will gradually become a reality," Zhu Fenglian added, noting the possibility of joint construction by both sides of a high-speed corridor across the strait.
"Taiwanese compatriots will be able to leave the island and visit Beijing by following the Beijing-Taipei expressway," she said. "Overall, peaceful reunification will mark a new starting point for the complete renewal of the existing infrastructure in Taiwan and the creation of a new type of infrastructure here."
